Ipoh Makes History with the Launch of Ipoh Doughnut Economics

Perak proudly celebrates Ipoh as the first city in Asia to adopt the Doughnut Economics framework – a bold step towards a city that prospers without breaching planetary boundaries. This launch also marks a significant milestone in the effort to shape Ipoh into a progressive, prosperous, and resilient model city.

Launched by YBhg. Tuan Zamakshari Hanipah, Mayor of Ipoh, this Action Plan sets the course to 2027, with Ipoh as a model for ASEAN cities where economic growth, environmental care, and social well-being work in harmony.

YBhg. Tuan Zamakshari Hanipah, Mayor of Ipoh, emphasised in his speech that this action plan is not merely an official document, but a concrete roadmap for sustainable urban transformation.

This action plan ensures sustainable growth without compromising the well-being of people and the planet. This affirms the Perak State Government’s commitment to making Ipoh an inclusive, competitive city and a benchmark not only for Malaysia, but also for the ASEAN region.

The Ipoh Doughnut Economic City Action Plan was officially launched on August 12 in conjunction with the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF), alongside strategic partners - Sunway Centre for Planetary Health, Ipoh City Council, Institut Darul Ridzuan, Yayasan Hasanah, including city leaders, and local communities of Ipoh.
